policies and accessibility

Non-discrimination: Boston Acupuncture Project works to create a safe and comfortable environment for all members of our community. We welcome people of all genders, sexes, races, colors, incomes, national origins, ages, abilities or disabilities, relationship statuses, familial situations, religions, sizes and shapes, sexual orientations, and political beliefs. Your level of care will never be based on any of these factors.

Accessibility information:  our space allows for use of mobility devices that can navigate a 32″ wide  space; the clinic is located on the first floor with a removable ramp up to the entrance, but the front door and ramp are only 32″ wide. We have a single, gender-neutral, semi-wheelchair-accessible restroom for use by everyone in the clinic.  If this is not adequate for your needs, we can refer you to nearby practitioners; just contact us. Our reclining zero gravity chairs can hold up to 500 lbs, the other recliners can hold up to 300 lbs. Our practitioners currently speak only English.

Help us be Scent Free! We strive to be a low-fragrance space. Please help us to accommodate other community members who are chemically sensitive to fragrances and other scented products. Thank you for not wearing perfume, aftershave, scented hand lotion, fragranced hair products, essential oils, and/or similar products during your visit. For more information about scent-free products and supporting people with chemical sensitivities, click here to access ‘Fragrance free femme of colour realness’ by Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha.

Drop-ins or walk-ins: We sometimes accept walk-ins or drop-ins as space permits. Please check with the practitioner on duty to see if they can fit you in. We prefer a call or text, but you can also stop by. You can also schedule same-day appointments online. Getting your name on the schedule allows us to review your treatment history in advance and make sure we save your spot.

Cancellation Policy: all missed appointments and those changed or cancelled with less notice than required are subject to a fee equal to the bottom of the sliding scale:

  • 12 hours’ notice is required to change or cancel a community acupuncture appointment.
  • 24 hours’ notice is required to change or cancel a Bubble Block or chair massage appointment.

If you are sick or have an emergency, you will not be charged. Read more about how to change or cancel an appointment here.

COVID-19: you must wear a face mask that fits our current criteria and you must cancel your visit if you have symptoms or an exposure within the past 5 days. Read more about our COVID-19 policies here.

Credit cards on file: you must have a card on file in order to make appointments with us. Your card will only be charged in the following cases:

  1. You request an amount be charged to your card for payment.
  2. You cancel or reschedule with less notice than required by our policies (see above) for any non-illness, non-emergency reason.
  3. You miss your appointment time and we cannot treat you that day.
  4. You simply do not show up for your appointment and you do not call or text to let us know what happened within 24 hours.

Kids at BAP: We do treat children at BAP provided that they are able to sit quietly during their treatment. Children should be accompanied by an adult. Some caregivers bring books or small toys to occupy kids during treatment. 15 minutes with the needles is usually plenty of time for a younger child. We find that kids who want to receive treatment usually do fine; if your child is frightened or just isn’t interested in treatment it is probably better to wait until they are older.

Animals at BAP: We do NOT treat pets at BAP. Please do not bring any non-human animals with you, with the exception of service animals. If you would like a referral for animal acupuncture please let us know.

Closing time: The clinic will close 45 minutes after the last appointment time. Please keep this in mind if you would like a longer treatment!
